Our PAIO drinking straws are made of 100 percent reed, also called thatch. This is a renewable raw material directly from nature. Thus, these drinking straws fully meet the criteria of sustainability and environmental friendliness.

We always carefully hand-select the natural reeds from which we make the straws. Only the best material is used. Speaking of use: Our drinking straws made of reed are not disposable, but reusable. However, we are a (rather large) piece far dependent on the whims of nature. Because reed always grows the way she wants it. But that does not matter at all, because fortunately nature gives us everything we need for our idea: narrow and wide, long and short stalks.

We do not interfere with the growth processes, but let nature take care of itself. However, we attach great importance to a careful selection of the reed for our drinking straws, after all, we want to offer our customers not only environmentally friendly, but also user-friendly drinking straws.

In short, we select and harvest the best reed to then process it into different drinking straws, so that the perfect straw is available for every drink.

PAIO: sustainable straws in the best quality

The basis of each PAIO drinking straw is an untreated reed, always exactly as nature created it. What we do with this reed to turn it into a drinking straw? Basically, there are three steps:

1. We peel the reed.
2. We cut the reed. Here we resort to a novel, specially developed for this purpose Präzisionsschnittverfahren backück. This ensures that the drinking straws do not fray at the ends, reducing quality.
3. We säuber the reed inside and disinfect it thoroughly. This step is also done with a specially dafür developed process, which is like the drinking straws sustainable and environmentally friendly. 

Importantly, in the course of the manufacturing process, we subject every single drinking straw several times to a comprehensive quality test.
